| SPACEGIRL TO THE RESCUE Apr 07, 2009 Posted By Dominic | |
| This one, I have a soft spot for. There are a couple things going on here. On one level it's a little love letter to my girl. So that's the sappy, smiley part. She loved it so in that, I was a success. Another thing to note is that I wasn't sure I could even pull this off. I have wanted to do a homage to the great CALVIN & HOBBES and more particular the character of SPACEMAN SPIFF, whose appearances were always my favorite strips. The problem was I had trouble thinking of a pacing for the strip. I couldn't fit it into 4 panels. Then this hit me and it worked out pretty well. I think it gets the point across... Not as obvious of a source is the Warhammer 40K influence. I've been playing it a lot lately with my brother and it's been a bonding experience for us. Yeah, it's silly, it's nerdy, and it makes my girlfriend wonder why she is dating me, it's all of that. It is fun and my brother has very few hobbies. This one he enjoys, so I enjoy it even more then I would. Ever have something like that? Something you get more of a kick out of because your friend or relative loves it so much? I didn't want to make the imagined character a straight Space Marine, nor the enemies Tyranids....but I won't deny that it's an influence. All in all, this was a fun comic to do. I'm glad I got to finally give my nod to Spaceman Spiff. It had been a while coming. CLICK HERE TO COMMENT CADET! | |
